Things To See

The Village Voice

Why? Because at any given moment, you can be fairly certain that my daughter and I are wishing we were there.

Vegan Lunchcast

Vegan Lunchcast is a blog of one regular guy's journey from omnivore to vegan, and what the HECK he eats for lunch each day as a part of his new diet. I find his blog particularly intriguing for many reasons. For one thing, he notes his recipes and takes pictures of his food, which is very inspiring. Also, his food is in a cool little American-style bento box, which earns him lots of brownie points in my book. Furthermore, this guy lives in the same little podunk town as I do, and he's making a go of veganism despite the fact that there's virtually nothing about this community that provides any support for such an endeavor. Natural food restaurants? Zero. Vegetarian or vegan restaurants? Also Zero. Heck, our *two* little natural foods stores don't even have a deli counter. It's a matter of carful intention, and I admire him for the amount of integrity he demonstrates simply by sticking to his ideals even when they are far from convenient. Three cheers for Ken!

Overheard In New York

Very entertaining, what can I say. I love NYC, and I love the way that people will plop down 16 inches from you and continue with a deeply private conversation. It's such a different idea of the "personal bubble" than what we have around here, and I find it quite refreshing.

Nola Dot Com

I'm originally from New Orleans. Nola.com is the internet branch of the Times-Picayune, New Orleans' official newspaper. I love to go here and check things out every day, it's both a salve for my missing Her and a way to exacerbate my loneliness for Her. There's nothing like New Orleans. It's not merely a place, it's an entire culture, a whole outlook on life. If you haven't spent much time there, you probably won't quite understand what I mean. If you have spent time there, you no doubt get it and have powerful feelings about Her yourself.
